Làstima: two women, one journey, endless possibilities of being human. After the success of L’Agnello, Mario Piredda’s new film is a road movie that crosses borders and prejudices to bring the most authentic Sardinia to international screens.
Làstima: what does it mean?
From the late Latin and ecclesiastical blastimare, from the Greek ‘βλασφημεῖν’ (‘to speak ill’ or ‘to say harmful things’), superimposed on the Spanish lastima, pity. From this superimposition derive the many ironic nuances it takes on in the Sardinian language.
Vera, a forty-year-old woman of Romanian origin, finds herself unemployed once again and is forced to move Kali, a young Nigerian girl, from one city to another across sun-scorched Sardinia: a seemingly simple ‘task’ turns into a journey that lasts a lifetime.
LÀSTIMA is an Italian-Swiss production by Articolture and DOK Mobile, with the support of the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and Swiss Radio and Television.
