Two women, an unexpected journey, many possibilities of being human: always choosing for ourself, in relationships with others.
Vera, a forty-year-old woman of Romanian origin, finds herself unemployed once again and is forced to transfer Kali, a young Nigerian girl, from one city to another across sun-scorched Sardinia: an apparently simple “task” turns into a journey of a lifetime.
Mario Piredda’s new film is a road movie that reconstructs the story of these two women across borders and prejudices, with the irony that a mocking fate deserves, to bring the most authentic Sardinia to international screens.
Ta Làstima…
but what does it mean?
From the late Latin and ecclesiastical blastimare, from the Greek “βλασφημεῖν” (“to speak ill” or “to say harmful things”), superimposed on the Spanish lastima, pity. From this superimposition derive the many ironic nuances it takes on in the Sardinian language.
LÀSTIMA is an Italy-Switzerland production, between Articolture and DOK Mobile, with RSI Radiotelevisione Svizzera, in collaboration with Tangaj Production (RO) with the support of the European Union, the Italian Ministry of Culture, the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Swiss Federal Office of Culture, Cineforom, PICS.
